Lord Peter Melchett is Policy Director at the Soil Association UK and also an organic farmer. Here, Peter explains that, to grow the market, we need to persuade brands and retailers that it's in their own interest to source organic cotton. There is growing demand from consumers, particularly the younger generations, for more information about the origins and social and environmental impacts of their purchases. Organic cotton has many benefits in this regard and the data and technology available today make it easier to evidence these, but Peter believes that more work is needed to convince companies of the value of this.
