Artist Rhona Byrne and myself where commissioned by Fingal County Council as part of their 1916 Commemorative Celebrations to create a project that responded to Fingal’s involvement in the rising. We were interested in the slow communication of the time – bikes being a major mode of transport – and how small groups were mobilised into action, we were also interested in the language around the rising and how we could engage younger audiences and make the subject matter relevant to them, now. We created 3 mobile monuments – forms in action – on trikes that cycled around the whole county of Fingal. The monuments opened up to become central sites to host performances which we devised with the participants. Approximately 500 hundred people, old and young were involved in the project across three locations within Fingal.
