"Rooster" was commissioned by the Suzanne Dellal Centre and Israel Opera and was premiered November 2009 at the Opera House in Tel Aviv. Based on I.L. Peretz’s “Bontscha the Silent” Rooster is a dance-theater piece for 12 dancers, an opera singer and the performer Margalit Oved. The work begins at 10 pm, ends at dawn and traces the dream of the main character that is victimized by the jealousies and cruelties of others in his constant attempt to fi nd love. Rooster and Barak’s previous work Monger are currently touring Europe, Asia and the United States including performance at London’s Barbican Centre and Jacob’s Pillow. Monger will be performed this April 15 and 16 at UCLA’s Royce Hall. Special thanks to Stephan Koplowitz for giving me the honor of working with such a wonderful cast and crew, Elizabeth Van Vleck for her endless generosity and kindness, and all of the dancers for being so dedicated, professional and giving. Additional thanks to Lillian Barbeito, Tina Finkelman Berkett and Genna Moroni for all of their work in helping me set this piece. Lastly, thanks to my mother, Margalit Oved, for all that she has taught me, for giving me a deep love for dance and for performing in this work. Linda Ambrose, Nicole Stark, Susan Chapman, Ian Garret, Amber Watson and the Faculty, Staff, and Students of the Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance. Extra special thanks to Kathy and Randy Newman and everyone at Firetect.
