It's always been one of those things, on my TO-DO list, ever since I heard of it, SXSW seemed like one of the best festivals around, and finally I got a chance to actually attend, and under the best of circumstances too.
It would have definitely been cool to show up as just an attendee and check out films and talk to other guest, but I really love to have a camera on hand capturing moving images, and try and create content. I'm finding out more and more that it's what I love doing, and what I really wanna do. So getting the opportunity to attend, not just as a spectator but having a press pass to the film festival has definitely been a really great experience. Also getting to hangout with Jared Abrams and Chris Collins of Cinema5D and WideOpenCamera.com has been amazing and very inspirational, to see how they work so hard to create content left and right out of everything that's around them. To see the struggles and how they overcome them is really what pushes me to try harder and work towards becoming a better shooter and editor.
This is the first of a series of episodes I will be posting straight from SXSW 2011 while in Austin. I'll keep them short and try and compact as much as I can into each episode, even though it's been tough as so much happened just in the first day.
Getting a chance to work closely with the Vimeo Crew has also been very encouraging and it's where a lot of the drive comes from. They have helped open the door to join forces with the iReport team over at CNN.com and hopefully together produce some great content direct from SXSW.
Stay tune for lots more.
