'It's Elementary' is written for clarinet, cello, piano, tape and live visuals. Here all we have is a midi version with the tape part. The piece is an abstract piece of visual music. John Whitney's work 'Permutations' was one of the first examples of visual music which I engaged with, this piece came out of his inspiration. The role of the visuals is to follow the structure of the music, to correspond with the intensity found in the score, to map the rhythms of the individual instruments and to reflect the range of the instrumental pitch content.
