A dance film by Iris Heitzinger | The elusive permanence of being
Set in the incredible landscape of Catalonia, the dance film “The Elusive Permanence of Being” is a poetic exploration of the basic human need for belonging. It deals with the yearning to be part of something in order to recognize one’s individuality through friction with the environment and the collective.
The protagonists of the film are on a quest for a collective state which holds each individual and gives it it’s space, negotiating all the while with the resulting interdependence between them. Going through different degrees of closeness and solitude they discover, that homogeneity can transform into something uncomfortable and limiting at times. Unlike the bark of a tree the skin is permeable and we are constantly pierced and invaded by our surroundings, physically and emotionally.
People dealing with people, bodies encountering bodies, flesh colliding with nature. Bodies which support, push and mould themselves and each other. An attempt to integrate oneself in the frame, to be part of the bigger picture.
''...they struggle with all the force of their lives for one thing only: to fulfil themselves according to their own laws, to build up their own form, to represent themselves.'' (H. Hesse)
