(Note: This doc is not about David R. Hawkins, a spiritual mystic)
In an era of static educational standards and testing, this documentary examines the wisdom of Boulder, Colorado educators David and Frances Hawkins. The Hawkins are revered for their deep understanding of learning. They took their lead from the learner's curiosity and connected it to the world through use of meaningful materials and substantive conversation. Hawkins' ideas influenced Head Start, Elementary Science Curriculum, and teacher education. Their collaboration with the University of Colorado, Harvard, Queen's University Ontario, Leicestershire, England, and Reggio Emilia, Italy continue to impact students and teachers world-wide. Rare historical photos taken by longtime Boulder educator Elizabeth Kellogg, combined with lively footage of active learning, video archives, and the insights of top educators help to keep the Hawkins' legacy alive.
