The work of Valverde Dance is dedicated to traditional dance and music from South America, especially from Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina and Chile.
Choreographer Luis Valverde is a musician, dancer and researcher of Andean Art. He has been Director of the Conjunto de Zampoñas de San Marcos in Lima, a member of AC Brisas del Titicaca, the Center for Peruvian Music Reasearch (CIDEMP) and the Center of Folkore of San Marcos University (CUF). In 2000 he moved to San Francisco, performing with renown Bay Area Artists. Founder of the Peruvian Dance Company, he danced and choreographed for the SF Ethnic Dance Festival, and was one of the 11 Bay Area artists selected for the Regional Dance Development Initiative (Dance Lab) part of the NEFA’s National Dance Project. Currently Luis Valverde works as Artistic Director of AC Kanchis and of his own Valverde Dance Company.
