I'm starting to stream more episodes of my stepfather's TV films for Southern Television and later for Channel 4 via a private production company Lacewing during the 80s. This episode of 'Old Country' was directed by Steve Wade.
I apologise for the poor picture quality but I am immeasurably grateful to the viewer who, 20+ years ago, recorded some of these episodes on VHS videos and got them to me a few years back, transferred to a CD so I could start posting them on the internet. I hope this film gives pleasure.
In this episode JH talks about a specially made 'poacher's rod' given him by the widow of the Covent Garden rodmaker Sourbutts during the Second World War. Jack took to mainland Europe later in the war, lent to Howard Marshall from whom it was stolen, got it back anonymously after the war. He uses it on a pond that's ideal for encouraging a young person to start fishing.
Ian Wegg reminds me that others have referred to this episode as 'Poacher's Rod'. It was broadcast on 21/8/83
