This promotional spot shows the power of Adobe After Effects right out of the box. No need for third party plug-ins. The concept was pretty simple, we wanted an illustrated look, kind of stopmotion-esque, with the charm of low production value with a 1950's style nostalgia. After Effects provided all of the necessary tools. I started with some stock illustrations from photos.com; mixed and matched different parts of the illustrations to form my the line drawings; I used the 'auto-trace' function, 'stroke' effect, and then animated the mask splines. 'Roughen edges' and 'scribble' provided an adequate hand-written texture to the line drawings, and 'bezier warp' with a 'drop shadow' accomplished the effect of paper flipping page by page. The only reason why Cinema 4D was even used was to export CS Tools' DocuCam keyframes for a quick and dirty shaky camera effect on the final pre-render to give the entire piece a more organic, home-made feel.
