I shot this video in a mountain village in Guizhou Province, China. The people you see in this video are part of an ethnic minority within China called the Miao. They are highlanders, almost always locating their villages in the mountaintops, where they harvest rice, corn, cotton, and fiery hot peppers from the terraced slopes. They speak their own language, separate from Mandarin and even distinct from the Dong ethnic minority, who live in the valleys below. This particular village is known for the shiny black clothing worn by the people here. Also, the men of this village make their own flintlock rifles which they use to shoot pigs and birds, and to impress the occasional traveller who wanders by.
