Just continuing to try to get every bit of resolution i can from my Kowa 2X for Bell and Howell and Canon 7D with my Nikon Ais lenses. I think i am about at the limit of what my 7D can resolve with an anamorhic lens attached. I believe that my Kowa Anamorphic lens can resolve more than the Canon 7D will allow. I am hoping for new DSLR's to be introduced by Canon, Nikon in the next few months that will offer more resolution, reduced aliasing and moire and with improved more efficient codecs. However, I am not sure if that will happen.
I have been experimenting with the Tokina +0.4 diopter and the kowa anamorphic lens. I have set the Kowa to infinity and the Nikon 50mm f1.4 AI-S "taking" lens to about 15 to 20 feet which has allowed me to use the +0.4 tokina diopter up to around 8 to 10 feet for focus. I did this to get a sharper image than the Kowa and Nikon 50mm f1.4 alone were not able to give me with the Canon 7D at that same range and because it seems to greatly reduce aliasing and moire as you can see in this video. All shot handheld at about f4.0.
Also, I used my X=117,Y=62 setting to stretch this 2X anamorphic image, one of the five that I have come up with, for this video.
I used the "Neutral" setting with sharpness set to 1( one click to the right of no sharpness at all). Also no sharpening was added in post.
Edited And Color corrected in Avid Media Composer 5.0.3. I Imported the canon H.264 footage in and edited it as DNxHD 175mb 8bit and before exporting it as a Quicktime Reference movie into Sorenson Squeeze for encoding, I changed the project setting to the RGB 1:1 10 bit setting.
Encoded in Sorenson Squeeze 7 with "Youtube-Vimeo 720p" setting downloaded from Sorenson's website.
