In Khayelitsha, South Africa -- MSF is using a new model of care for treating patients with drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB).
Instead of receiving treatment in hospital (with the isolation that comes with it), DR-TB treatment is being delivered to patients in community clinics much closer to home. The clinics are equipped with improved diagnostic tools, peer-to-peer counselling, and patient/family support for the full course of treatment.
