Julius Dacles is 63 years old. In 2003 he retired from the Filipino National Police and purchased six hectares of farmland. Julius took out a loan from Taytay Sa Kauswagan Inc. (TSKI) to help him farm a range of crops including corn, sugarcane, rice, bananas and cassava.
In 2010 Julius’ wife Renita suddenly became seriously ill and was rushed to the nearest hospital. Tragically she had suffered a heart attack and died shortly afterwards.
Julius received a life insurance benefit of PHP 50,000 (approximately $1,150) which covered a substantial portion of the costs associated with Renita’s death. He explained that they were a poor family and that payout from MicroEnsure enabled him to bury his wife with dignity.
