In this message we ponder the reality of winter.
Why God? Why a season like this? Was does winter say about who you are?
He lets out all the stops, he holds nothing back. No one can mistake that voice? His word thundering so wondrously, his mighty acts staggering our understanding. He orders the snow, Blanket the earth! and the rain, Soak the whole countryside! No one can escape the weather it's there. And no one can escape from God. Wild animals take shelter, crawling into their dens, When blizzards roar out of the north and freezing rain crusts the land. Its Gods breath that forms the ice, its Gods breath that turns lakes and rivers solid. And yes, its God who fills clouds with rainwater and hurls lightning from them every which way. He puts them through their paces first this way, then that commands them to do what he says all over the world. Whether for discipline or grace or extravagant love, he makes sure they make their mark.
Elihu re: God in chapter 37:6-13 of the book of Job, MSG
With your finger you opened up springs and creeks, and dried up the wild floodwaters. You own the day, you own the night; you put stars and sun in place. You laid out the four corners of earth, shaped the seasons of summer and winter.
Psalm 74:9, MSG
They were celebrating Hanukkah just then in Jerusalem. It was winter. Jesus was strolling in the Temple across Solomons Porch. The Jews, circling him, said, How long are you going to keep us guessing? If youre the Messiah, tell us straight out.
