This was the first of the rotoscope film projects created in one of my U-Arts "Animation II" classes (now being called "Object Animation" since 2012) made in 2004. The art was created on the Oxberry animation stand from a 16mm print of one of my father's "Record on Film" music videos circa 1968. I encouraged the students to capture the essence of the live action as quickly as possible, almost like doing one minute gesture drawings in a live model session. I then had them experiment widely in terms of artistic style and technique with their final color treatments. We then shot the color artwork using istopmotion software and re-married the roto art to the original sound track.
The band in the original footage used is "Zephyr" featuring Tommy Bolin on guitar and Candy Givens on Vocals.
