A short video featuring Northeast Minneapolis Arts District (NEMADD) Vision award winner Dougie Padilla.
For a little more Dougie Padilla, here is a short poem.
i have so many stories to write,
i’m not sure i will write any of them.
its so easy to take out a dvd
and watch someone destroy a planet
or a love affair
or a couplet.
its so hard to remember what happened,
what is happening …
painting is easier.
just move into the larger world,
the world unleashed and unguided and untouched
except for a bit of ochre here and there,
a bit of brilliant yellow
or pike’s green.
i just put in the time,
all the while letting the monkey between my ears
gather nuts in the forest,
listen to bach descending, ascending;
listen to sports radio rambling forever,
or the news,
the endless driveling news…
but my hands work,
they have a gift of their own
i don’t really know them well,
i try and stay out of their way.
and they plow on,
they just plow on,
morning to night.
