GLI hosted its Annual Meeting Tuesday, March 15th, celebrating community innovation and achievements with more than 1,500 business and community leaders. A common thread throughout this year’s program was innovation and the role it plays in regional success, from traditional industries to new ventures.
Alan Mulally, President and CEO of Ford Motor Company, was the keynote speaker, discussing the importance of manufacturing to the American economy, as well as the role innovation is playing in the industry.
In highlighting the new Ford Escape strategy, Mr. Mulally praised Louisville as a “center of excellence” for Ford, and identified “the commitment Louisville has made to create a business environment where we can compete with the rest of the world” as a key driver of Ford’s investment in the community.
Ford is a primary source of manufacturing growth for Kentucky. The company currently employs 5,200 workers in the state, and supports a network of nearly 200 suppliers. A 2008 study estimates Ford’s impact on the Greater Louisville region to be more than $755 million.
