On the night before what would have been Maureen's 53rd birthday, on April 27, I was in Dallas at a reception ahead of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's national board meeting. I was honored by Dr. Lou DeGennaro's Presidents Award. What I didn't expect was the special video that had also been put together. This is why I do what I do.
And as my son, Taylor Thompson, noted in a post from his Habitat for Humanity journey in Thailand that week:
"I realized that its not just about not letting the negative emotions consume you. Its about not letting your accolades, your accomplishments, or awards consume you either. In the grand scheme of things, all of that is insubstantial. Instead, continue to move through life with your head down but with your heart up."
Son, thank you for these words... my head is down... cancer is in my sights... my heart is up. Full of love for you, your sisters, your mom, whom we all miss... and for Kethan... this is my #onething.
