Last year I had the pleasure of filming with John Hodgson, a self-taught wood turner based on the Morvern peninsula in Scotland. Johns wood turning is beautiful to say the least and very unique. The shapes, colour and textures that evolve spontaneously during his process transcend functionality. His aim is to encourage the beholder to discover something quite different to anything they have seen before and through the sense of touch, experience the unexpected.
In this short I follow John making a beautiful Wych Elm bowl and we talk about the process he goes through to create such a piece. For more on John and his art, visit john-hodgson.co.uk.
Filmed in John's workshop on the Morven peninsula.
