Magic Box Productions Teaching Artist Laura Chipley worked with Ms. Bone's 4th grade class at PS 139, Brooklyn, to create this original stop-motion animated video, written, shot and edited by the class, and based on a classic Native American folk tale, RAINBOW CROW. The students read and researched the Lenape legend they based their story on--symbolizing the value of selflessness, and telling the story of how the world received the gift of fire. They created cut-paper and hand-drawn illustrations, wrote and recorded their own narration, and used imovie to give the illusion of motion. Magic Box Productions is a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to bridging the Digital Divide: using media arts to connect kids, cameras and classrooms throughout New York City. This project was sponsored in part by the New York State Council on the Arts.
