Concert / Diary (what's a life?) is a work for multiple streams of pre-recorded material to be played back on a variety of devices, including Super 8 projectors, video in a variety of formats, and audio. The project is edited anew for each presentation.
This video presents excerpts from the version that was presented as part of my thesis exhibition at the Sweeney Art Gallery in Riverside, CA. In this version, the work was shown on three wide-screen televisions and five mp3 players spread throughout the room. Two of the televisions were oriented vertically, with one high up on the wall and the other mounted so that it appeared to be resting on the floor and leaning against the wall. All eight channels of material were of different lengths, and looped continuously, but non-synchronously, so that throughout the day the same images and sounds would be presented in constantly changing configurations. This video therefore presents excerpts that are only one possible combination, and this is therefore not to be held as a definitive documentation of the work as presented at the Sweeney Art Gallery in 2017.
This project was made possible thanks to a grant from the Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts, with additional support from the Echo Park Film Center.
