Melrose players Mark Robertson and Scott Wight bowed out of playing rugby at the very top today by winning the London 7s as part of the Scotland 7s squad for the second year running, beating England 12-7 in the Final. Not only that but in the quarter final they beat New Zealand for the first time in history.
No Scottish rugby team have beaten New Zealand (either 15s or 7s) since the two countries first clashed in 1905 - that's 112 years ago! It is an extraordinary way to bring the curtain down on a wonderful career in the abbreviated game. Both Mark and Scott played for Melrose and were school pals who dreamed of playing together for Scotland one day! Head Coach Calum MacRae - also from Melrose - finished his stint today as well.
Mark and Scott took time out from celebrating to record a message which we're delighted to pass on.
Congratulations to all three!
