Radical ceramic sculpture techniques possible with paperclay demonstrated by expert Graham Hay.
The Ancient Tribe sculpture is built from completely dry paperclay sections, joint together using a combination of water, paperclay slip and soft paperclay.
In this video, the work is recreated, illustrating the speed and immediacy possible with paperclay, when using the DipStick technique.
I have called this technique DipStick, because it is so simple (just dip in paperclay slip and stick it), that any dipstick could do it.
The sculpture was originally created in 1994.
A 1999 journal set out the steps for building it( see grahamhay.com.au/hay1999ancient.html).
