'Getting into the Nature of Sustainable Agriculture
Professor Martin Wolfe is Principal Scientific Adviser to the Organic Research Centre, Elm Farm. After a career at the Plant Breeding Institute, Cambridge, he held the Chair of Plant Pathology at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, until 1997. He now farms Wakelyns Agroforestry in Suffolk, which is the main site for ORC arable farming research. The background for the field trials is six organic agroforestry systems, developed over the past 18 years. There is a principal theme of diversity in all of the research projects on the farm; a current large EU project focuses on population breeding in wheat and other crops as an alternative to monoculture.
