This performance featured a collaboration with set designer Lisa Boling Huntsman and composer Ben Juodvalkis. The first international iteration of this long-term outreach project, Artistic Director Casey Lee Thorne spent her Fulbright Fellowship to Israel 2014-2015 conducting free community engagement workshops throughout Israeli and Palestinian Territories, to examine the role of dance in self-discovery and community-building. The set design is composed of hundreds of specially designed cards which contain the written reflections of our workshop participants about what dancing connects them to, with translations on the reverse side. These words served as the primary source of inspiration for the choreographic process. The set design is formed in the shape of silhouettes of faces looking towards one another and away, with the center faces joined as one head, to show the symbolism of cultural similarities and differences. This project was supported by The Fulbright Program, Dominican University of CA, Ca$h a program of Theatre Bay Area, and our Kickstarter donors.
