Extracts from silent films showing Josephine Baker dancing in the 1920s and 1930s. These are compared with earlier and later examples of African American and Black-influenced dancing. There is of course somethkng unique about the way Josephine Baker dances, but the movements she was performing are part of a larger African-derived tradition.
