Since 2010, the ASUW Student Food Cooperative has provided educational programs, community events, and volunteer opportunities for students at the University of Washington interested in learning about urban farming and sustainable food systems. The founders hoped to open a store on campus that was independent and completely run by students. After years of attempts, the co-op has opened the Bean Basket, a bulk buying store in the Husky Union Building. Co-op managers Gunnar Colleen and Zoe Frumin say that the store gives students a new sense of ownership over their food.
