Metropolight explores the emotional charge, or lack thereof, of the 21st century metropolis. Rather than focusing on individual cities, the book captures the clinically sterile urban environment and hints at the ways it structures our lives and shapes our experience. Many of its photos have been taken in business districts around the world. Metropolight is a record of the cities’ homogenising power over its people. It is a poetic account of the continuous shift towards a quantifiable and objective existence and the tensions it creates in those who live in the city. Hopefully, the book is a record of this specifically urban struggle; of what the city moulds us into, and how we try to remain authentic to ourselves at the same time.
