Specialized thoracic adapted recovery (STAR) teams are dedicated to heart and lung recovery. The STAR model may achieve qualitative and quantitative benefits for centers and may provide greater efficiency, productivity, and improved outcomes and increase the number of thoracic transplant cases to benefit patients on waiting lists. Regionalization of thoracic donor organ recovery with STAR teams may also improve the organizational and economic aspects of organ recovery. This presentation was initially delivered at the 37th Annual International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) Meeting in April 2017.
