Experts estimate that there are at least 1.3 to 1.7 million youth who experience at least one night of homelessness each year. Through data submitted to the U.S. Department of Education, 95,032 unaccompanied homeless youth were counted during the 2014-2015 school year. In Pennsylvania during the 2015-16 school year, 20% – or 5,607 – of identified students served were unaccompanied youth. This number is rising both nationally and in Pennsylvania.
This webinar will be presented by a panel of professionals with experience in addressing the needs of students who are homeless and unaccompanied. Presenters will provide more information about this national epidemic among young people, the expectations for serving this population per the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, and specific strategies and solutions which can help these students meet their academic and life goals.
