Sabina Haque and Madison HS students' vision for a more unified and sustainable Portland.
This video documents a street walk-about performance on SE 82 ave/Division, by Madison High students "We Need Our Voices Heard!" using the 100-foot long text banners that the youth have created.
The Zine, posters, street posters and banner are a call to action: we need representation, we need jobs in our neighborhoods, we need paved roads, we need affordable housing, we need our justice, we need our voices heard! Students worked with Sabina Haque, artist-in-residence at the Portland City Archives, to explore the archival record of how annexation and city policy/ investments in east Portland has affected the community. The youth have created a silkscreen zine and 10ft murals that ask the question: How will we as a city find a more inclusive voice and a sustainable future?
