The Child Protection Center (CPC) was excited to bring to Kansas City its 4th Annual "Cook for Courage - KC's Best Que with Local Brew" event!
The CPC's signature event featured amazing local chefs: Clark Grant of The Capital Grille; Matt Nichols of JJ's Restaurant; Jakob Polaco of Aep; Bobby Stearns of Ophelia's Restaurant and Izaak Winter of Newport Grill. These incredible chefs generously choose to share their talents with the CPC for the benefit of children in Kansas City.
On Sunday, May 21, 2017, these local chefs competed in a barbecue cook-off to prepare the best smoked ribs. In addition, local breweries including Boulevard Brewing Company, Cinder Block Brewery, Kansas City Bier Company, Martin City Brewing Company, McCoy's Public House and Brewery and Torn Label Brewing Company competed for the best brew!
Patrons were invited to come and enjoy the ambiance of the Historic 12th Street Bridge in the West Bottoms, while listening to music by Fullbloods, Toughies and The Conquerors - three local Kansas City bands! Each patron had the opportunity to sample both the ribs and a side dish prepared by each chef. Dessert was provided by Heirloom Bakery and Hearth. Patrons, along with a celebrity panel of judges that included food and beer writer Pete Dulin; former Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Trent Green; Owner of Port Fonda Chef Patrick Ryan; KSHB Morning News Anchor Lindsay Shively; Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Alex Smith; and Tanner and Jade Tolbert from Bachelor in Paradise, had the opportunity to vote on their favorite ribs, side dish and brew!
