Prof. Michael Laffan of the School of History and Archives, University College Dublin, Ireland, gave the inaugural address to the UCD History Society on the 19th of April 2010.
This paper was given to mark his retirement from UCD and was titled 'A History of History at UCD: Michael Laffan Reminisces'. In the paper Prof. Laffan shared how the university, its staff and its methods of teaching have changed over the years.
The paper was introduced by Declan O'Keffe, the then Auditor of the UCD History Society, and Prof. Edward James, the head of the School of History and Archives. It was followed by remarks by Prof. Diarmaid Ferriter, Professor of Modern Irish History, who commended Prof. Laffan's great contribution to both the study of history and academic life in UCD.
