Clinton was the first democratic president since Roosevelt to serve two full terms in the White House. He sought to modernise the Democratic party in somewhat similar fashion to Blair's 'New Labour'. Both searched for a 'Third Way' between the traditional statist policies of the Left and the neo-conservatism of the Right. How successful was Clinton in securing a new direction for the Democrats?
