In April 2017, SFWMD engineering crews inspected the progress of renovation work on the Masten Dam, one of two historic dams being refurbished on the Northwest Fork of the Loxahatchee River in Palm Beach County.
First built in the 1930s by local families and last renovated in 1986, the dams control and regulate upstream water flow in order to protect and maintain the unique riverine floodplain ecosystem of the Northwest Fork, Florida’s first federally designated Wild and Scenic River.
