The question of distance could be put this way: how far can individual beings (or sounds and images in a film) distance themselves from one another before the idea of society (or the cohesion of a whole) collapses?
The film answers with a materiological diving into a vegetal society. Among the infinite assemblages and the improbable and concrete characters whose forest is populated. These found a poetic language in which the spatial organization of sounds and images frees them from gravity and time.
This Essay pursues with images and sounds Baudelaire's intuition in Correspondances:
" Nature is a temple in which living pillars
Sometimes emit confused words;
(…) Like long echoes that mingle in the distance
(…) Perfumes, sounds, and colours respond to one another.
(…) Having the expanse of things infinite …"
Images of the canadian boreal forest from northern Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario and of mixedwood forests from southern Quebec.
Note on the audio: in this version the 4-channel original is downmixed to stereo, but has not been further optimized for laptop loudspeakers, thus it is highly recommended to listen on headphones or on external monitors.

La question de la distance pourrait être posée de cette façon: jusqu'où les êtres individuels (ou les sons et images d'un film) peuvent-ils se distancer les uns des autres avant que l'idée de société (ou de la cohésion d'un ensemble) ne s'effrite?
Le film répond à cette question par une plongée matériologique dans une société végétale. Parmi les assemblages infinis de personnages improbables et concrets qui peuplent une forêt. Par eux se fonde un langage poétique où l'organisation spatiale des sons et des images les libère de la gravité et du temps.
Il poursuit aussi par l'image et le son l'intuition que Baudelaire énonce dans Correspondances:
" La Nature est un temple où de vivants piliers
Laissent parfois sortir de confuses paroles;
(…) Comme de longs échos qui de loin se confondent
(…) Les parfums, les couleurs et les sons se répondent.
(…) Ayant l'expansion des choses infinies …"
Filmé dans la forêt boréale canadienne du nord de la Saskatchewan, du Manitoba et de l'Ontario et dans les forêts mixtes du sud du Québec.
Note sur l'audio : à partir de l'original 4-canaux, le son de cette version est réduit en stéréo, mais n'a pas été optimisé pour des haut-parleurs d'ordinateur: il est recommandé d'utiliser des écouteurs ou des moniteurs externes.
