Yesterday a Black-winged Stilt was discovered on the Ackerdijksche Plassen, near Oude Leede and Delft in Zuid-Holland. After visiting the office in Ypenburg I had to make a stop as this was only 8 km from our office. Around 12:00 there was a report that the bird flew-off, but luckily he was still in the same area when I arrived at 17:00. It did do another disappearing act and disappeared from view for an hour, but at 18:45 I found it again on exactly the same spot; he must have flown a circle in the area.
The video was shot through the telescope and unfortunately there is some wind noise and also some camera shake due to the wind. Notice around 40 sec. in the video that the bird becomes very alert and flies off... but luckily for the other birders he returned an hour later.
