"Vocal Naps" is a format in which artists as part of short naps in unusual places in public and art space, are assosiated to different interconnection with vocal experiments, currently superficially based on yodelling. The dramaturgical action is thereby reduced to a minimum. In the context of the performance, environment specific sound installations of a performative character are produced.
Vocal Naps I took place in the 21st house in Vienna. The "Living in the Wall" - series of events, where a mobile pavilion was built by an Architect and could be used with different projects, was used as our sleeping and yodelling platform. The sounds of the adjoining central station, as well as the surrounding construction sites, which we integrated into our yodeling improvisations, made this extremely quiet performance to an extraordinary soundscape. Driving elements such as the sounds of the incoming and outgoing trains as well as platform announcements, or the staccati of the compressed-air drifts, or the sounding signals of the cranes, were gently intercepted in order to be slowly retarded by the time expansion and flows into one sound cloud with a timeless here and now.
