This piece is both made in stages, and creates an improvisational stage. An 8’ x 10’ long three-piece silk curtain is hung from the barn at Vassar Farm. As a site specific work, the silk is naturally dyed with Mugwort, a native species found on the Ecological Preserve, and Purple Basil, a plant cultivated at the Poughkeepsie Farm Project. In early September, additional color(s) will be added with fall berries and/or flowers. A small platform and motion sensor light add the necessary elements for a simple theater setting that invites viewers into the scene, to take a selfie or play with their shadow.
