In our passage for today, we see an incredible example of faith that follows! So much of what Jesus has taught His disciples on discipleship (in Mark 8-10) is embodied in Mark 10.46-52. A blind man, Bartimaeus, approaches Jesus with both a great sense of his neediness and faith in Jesus as the Messiah. His faith in Jesus leads to restoration (and salvation) and further results in him following after Jesus as King! After his saving encounter with Jesus, Bartimaeus experiences physical sight, most likely, for the very first time in his life. He is able to venture off and see all the beauties of God’s good creation—things that have been described all of his life—but instead he would rather gaze upon the Savior! For him, Jesus was the most beautiful, the most worthy object to behold! He wanted nothing more than to follow the King! This is true faith at work! This is treasuring Christ at its finest! Here we see the marks of true discipleship!
