In the summer of 2008, I attended the 809 festival in China. Months later a couple of artists from Germany decided to curate an exhibition based on the participators' experiences of Yichang City, the main town that we passed through to get to the festival. Here is the work that stemmed out of this idea.
The City Unfolds is an impression of a city in China that is moving in multiple directions at the same time. Through a myriad deconstructions and reconstructions put forth into an animated scenario the original drive-through-the-city video footage has been reformulated into a moving collage that undergoes transformation as it reflects upon the personal cultural experience and its memory.
