2100 students and staff from Commack Middle School on Long Island in New York form a gigantic living painting of the Fire Island Lighthouse rising out of rocks made of garbage from a beach cleanup. The top of the lighthouse was also made of materials from the cleanup in this largest Art For the Sky project to date. The lighthouse was 210 ft tall . . . larger than the real one . . . and was complete with a 200 ft beam of light . . . made of yellow shirted 8th graders.
