Over our 45-year legacy, we’ve never ceased to be inspired by the resilience of our clients. Our 2017 Yuri Kochiyama Fellow, Danny Thongsy, started as one of our immigration detention clients. Now, he has become his own advocate and a voice for the voiceless.
At the age of 17, Danny was sentenced to life in prison. Despite the circumstances, he kept going. He found peace in religion and a calling as an advocate for other youths sentenced to life in prison. After being paroled last year, Danny was sent to an immigration detention center. Never losing faith, he finally won his freedom earlier this year.
