The player piano rolls are a set of midi sequence files to be used on a Disklavier piano. The files are made by taking video of famous notable performances of easily recognizable orchestral works and simplifying them down to a single midi sequence be played by a player piano. The method uses digital manipulation and simplification to translate piece from one form to another, losing information in the process. The process challenges the listeners ability to hear the patterns present in the original piece after its been transformed to largely random occurrences on the keyboard. The original is embedded in the final version with a shadow of the notes, timing, and general character left intact. The final pieces carry the demeanor of the original and are very different acoustic experiences then the source material.
