Ice Buddha at RUBIN MUSEUM OF ART in NYC
The melting of Atta Kim’s Ice Buddha
from Friday, March 25, 2011 to Monday, March 28, 2011
To mark the closing of the Grain of Emptiness exhibition, South Korean artist Atta Kim installed the melting of a five-foot-tall ice sculpture of the Buddha.
Visitors participated in the work by touching the melting ice, and collected melted water – with the injunction that they use it to tend to new growth, like a spring seedling.
