On 16 March 1911, a British Bristol Boxkite biplane took off from the old racecourse (Farrer Park), marking the birth of aviation in Singapore. One hundred years on, Singapore is a thriving and vibrant global aviation hub.
Progressing in tandem, aviation in Singapore has significantly contributed to Singapore’s development. Through aviation, the world has been brought closer to Singapore, providing a myriad of opportunities to live, work and play in this global city, and to travel to many parts of the globe for business and leisure.
To commemorate a centennial of aviation in Singapore, the Singapore Aviation Centennial Celebrations will bring the aviation community together in a year-long calendar of exciting and inspiring events showcasing the many achievements of the aviation industry and the many opportunities it offers.
