6.26.2010 - A partial float of the normally more ephemeral stream-like Gerstle River after heavy rains hammered the eastern Alaska Range. Hiked from the campground at the bridge to about 7 miles up and put in. Even at 'high' water, the Gerstle is full-on combat butt-boating, and requires a keen eye to stay moving and not drag bottom and get stuck. After doing it, I'd say it's not really worth it. I'd rather just bike up the riverbed with my fat tire bike at low water, which is a normal occurrence.
