You Are Many – Kevin Lüdicke
“…I can’t even remember why I came here. It was something banal that my hesitation suddenly rendered ineffably important.”
Retracing a dialogue with the artist’s alter ego, we traverse stage, corridor and chamber. Scenic landscapes created by the young artist for the sake of initiating his search within his work. His proposition: you are many.
“... I went through and suddenly I was two. Now I stand there and see myself standing.
Knowing that I know. „
A question or search, which taking the form of scenic representation, exceeds the classic format of the canvas. With the hetlp of a projection technique, it is projected onto the screen, and the painterly spaces of You are many are thus made accessible on a new, and moving level.
Immediately, the viewer becomes an audience.
When considering the paintings which make up Kevin Lüdicke’s current work cycle (2017) we are again confronted with the challenge to ‘enter in’. Missaligned yet complete naturescapes, collaged with constructions associated with our Substantive reality transform into a confusing puzzle. A puzzle which the viewer must enter into if they are to read the images. If we do not climb these stairs, then the enigmatic symbolism of these places, the topography of which the
artist has, in his search, tracked, and at points laid bare, will remain a hidden.
In his first solo exhibition, Kevin Lüdicke – who currently studies in Anna Anders’ Art & Media Class at the University of the Arts, Berlin – presents a multimedia work that affects because, personally and honestly mediated, it admits vulnerability. You Are Many is a personal dialogue that concerns us all via the question of who we are and the conflict of becoming, being and
remaining true to oneself.
