They say the best camera is the iPhone that's with you ;-)

I attempted to use a family vacation to test out my new, simplified, minimalist, HDSLR camera setup.

I figured if I could ski with a sling backpack (Canon 550D, Tascam DR-100, a couple lenses) and a monopod, I could shoot fairly spontaneously.

And it's a pretty good plan, if I were skiing alone. I hadn't quite factored my family into the plan. Shooting with the HDSLR was simply too slow: setting exposure, changing lenses, attaching camera to the monopod. Even with a 3 year old who was skiing for the first time, I was immediately left behind.

I skied with the HDSLR gear for 2 foggy days and had little to show for it. So I decided to pack it in and use the iPhone and 8mm.app, which by all accounts, turned out to the be right tool for the job.
